Funny you raised this as a topic. I've recently gone back to college after 12 years. In spite of having a college fund for the year, I'm looking at all areas of where I don't have to spend money and / or spend wisely. I used to do my own waxing for years (but bikini area was 9/10 times done by the professionals) but in last year / two, went to salons instead of diy. On Friday night, decided to do a diy job after buying a perfume earlier that day. It was surprising how easy it was, but then, my hair regrowth is fairer after years of waxing. Better again was the brazilian, no bother. I think the development of new waxes such as the pullaway wax as opposed to the material strips & wax, are more effective and easier to manage, at least in my case they are.

After hearing a bad story from a friend (who swears she caught something from getting a wax at a beautician) I only now go to the salon for the occasional brazillian. I'm getting quite good at diy waxing! The best way to do bikini waxing is to buy one of those special bikini-line electric razors and trim it right down first like beauticians do.

I've found the home wax kits to be very poor compared with a proper salon wax. But waxing can be expensive, so one way I've found of saving money is to model for beauty students at the local college; the main down side being that the wax takes a bit longer than at a salon, and you might have a lecturer watching you too. But if that doesn't bother you, then you can save a lot of money, as well as helping people who are trainimg for the beauty industry. I've also found a web site where you can sign up to be a model for various beauty treatments - http://www.salonguineapig.co.uk/ - people in your area can then send you a message when they need a model for something you've volunteered for.
