The only diet which really worked on my friend was when she stopped drinking so much booze! A load of wine, followed by a calorific meal afterwards was really bad for her.

When she switched to a glass or two on a night out, it really made a difference. A bit boring, I know.

Alcohol is packed full of sugar especially lager, cider and ready-made bottles. Sticking to a glass of wine or a white spirit and low calorie mixer will help.

If you want to kick start weight loss try cutting out carbs such as white pasta, rice and potatoes, swap them for small portions of brown rice or wholemeal pasta (a fist sized portion will do). Or try lentils which are high in protein and lighter than carbohydrates.

Depending on the person, but I think alcohol affects go on for longer even after a session. I used to find that I binged on rubbish food post-session, could never feel full enough. From eating processed foods would lead to no energy, even deflated moods (I swear I'm not Gillian McKeith). Sessions in a blue moon I can now handle. I love going to gigs but the boozing had to stop as it was turning into two/three times a week. To be honest, a few drinks used to take away from appreciating or realising a band for what they were like live (good? bad? indifferent?).
Ok - to synopsise :-)) Yes, I concur that reducing/removing/changing alcohol certainly benefits all-round.

I sometimes keep a calorie and exercise diary and when I do I realise how many calories I add per day when I drink - even a few glasses of wine. Sigh. Spirits with soda water are a lot better but not quite as "social" as I've been very bluntly told!

And the day after is SO BAD if I've really been at it. It seems suddenly okay to eat two servings of fried chicken and chips (rounded off with a pizza dinner) even though I've been refusing even the tiniest crumb of chocolate biscuit all week.
