Imagine Alice (yep the eponymous Alice In Wonderland, that Alice) fell down the rabbit hole and landed at the Mad Hatter's tea party but, instead of her usual fresh-faced and ribbon-wearing self, this time she's a 90s teenager with some major angst and a whole lot of eyeliner.

Imagine that and you're somewhere close to the emo coming of age banquet Molly Goddard dreamed up for her AW17 show.

Sending her signature romantic ruffles down the runway on the most genuinely diverse collection of models we've seen this season, Goddard's chosen beauty look was a tulle-contrasting mix of naughty-meets-nice.

Fresh skin, flyaway hair and healthy flushes (courtesy of blusher rather than the red wine being sipped on around the dining table in the middle of the runway) clashed with buzz cuts, black eyeliner and Freddie Kruger-esque stripy sweaters.

The official vibe? According to make-up pro Thomas de Kluyver it was all about channelling Chloe Sevigny in her 1997 film Gummo. Although, with arguably less boobs.

De Kluyver used a mix of two old-school original MAC lipsticks :Verve - a brown-toned mauve, and Chili - a brick red, and suggested we go back through our make-up bags because, 'They both feel so modern.'

MAC lipstick bought, all we're missing is the Molly Goddard dress. Just sayin...
