It might not be the most sophisticated style choice ever, but our obsession with glitter is the most magical.

So when Preen sent ethereal mermaid-esque models sparkling with glitter down their AW18 runway, our inner glitter fan rejoiced as it gained the high fashion sartorial seal of approval.

Inspired by South Korea's legendary female Haenyo oyster divers (not the Kira Kira app), backstage make-up legend Val Garland adorned models with a sprinkling of glitter as they walked out to the runway.

Standing roughly 50cm away from models' faces, Garland sent a shimmering puff of glitter onto their foreheads, cheeks and hairlines by blowing it off a sheet of paper or a book directly onto the skin moments before stepping on to the catwalk.

The idea? To give the models' skin a watery glistening effect, as if they'd stepped straight out of the sea with the healthiest sunlit glow ever.

'The pearlescent 3D lavender glitter gives the models' dewy skin a glacial finish,' said Garland of the otherworldly look.

The glitter in question? A sneaky new glitter pigment launch from MAC called Iridescent White.

In some lights lavender, in some silver, and in others golden, MAC's latest drop looks just like the iridescent inside of a freshly caught oyster.

In a good way of course...

Spotted backstage at the London College Of Fashion show as well, make-up pro Claire Mulleady combined the dreamy glitter with lip gloss and painted it directly onto models' eyelids for a Kira Kira twist on the high shine eyeshadow trend.

As is often the way with sneak peaks of new launches, you can't get your hands on Iridescent White quite yet, but keep your eyes peeled in the next couple of months for the sparkliest drop of 2018.
