Crayon liners are tricky. If you want a smudgy, easy to glide-on pencil then you often have to compromise on longevity, which is just not acceptable! If you can bear to wait until October, Chantecaille is launching the first gel liner in a pencil (far less fiddly than the pots they usually come in); you can even use it on the waterline and it's double-ended with a brush. [I’ve emailed for a credit and image] I’ve been road testing it this week and it lasts really well, while the black is a really deep, dark shade. It will be well worth the wait.
In the meantime, you can't go wrong with one of these. NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner, £17, has a dedicated celebrity following including Chloe Sevigny, the Olsens and Eva Mendes. Urban Decay Glide-on 24/7 Eye Pencil, £13, is really creamy and lasts well. It comes in loads of great colours from traditional black and grey and brights like green, blue and purple. Finally, Mac Eye Kohl, £13, is a make-up artist favourite (Craig Beaglehole, who has made up the likes of Miranda Kerr and Elle Macpherson, swears by it) and I often spy it backstage at London Fashion Week. Teddy is a really popular shade - Alexa Chung loves it; the intense bronze is a great alternative to black.
