Unlike the last couple of seasons when the Dolly Bun ruled the roost, next year there is no definite winner in the race for most coveted hairstyle. The ponytail, which came back into fashion favour this season, will still be a popular choice as will the Dolly Bun (or any style of bun, for that matter). There is also a leaning towards very romantic, loose, airy updos seen at Erdem, Donna Karan and Jason Wu (which was a personal favourite). At Jason Wu ribbons were braided through plaits; get practising now – this will make great wedding or summer party hair.
If you want to channel the 70s disco vibe that is going to be big next spring then you’ll need to get crimping, back brushing and teasing into the airy, afro textures seen at Marc Jacobs, Nathan Jenden and Topshop Unique. You’ll need to use lots of product for this look, so invest in L’Oreal Professional Play ball Texture Tonic, £11. Alternatively, hippy 1970s inspired waves will be just as popular and easier to recreate at home, get yourself a large barrel tong if your hair isn’t naturally wavy.
Finally, a hair accessory that I predict is going to be a hit is the head scarf seen at Moschino. I’ve already seen a few girls sporting the look (not including Cher from X Factor). It will come in handy when you don’t have time to wash and blow-dry your hair. Snap one up now, I’ve spied them in H&M.
