Having been around the backstage block a while it's nice to hear some make-up tips that are a bit more left of field.
This morning at Marni the ever-bubbly Tom Pecheux explained that instead of using a creamy, shimmering, highlight he was using a matte MAC eyeshadow in Gesso. The white powder was buffed on after foundation for a modern glow. A great tip if you find shimmers a bit 'much'.
Next stop Dolce & Gabbana where Pat McGrath was blending three shades of blusher - apricot, rosebud and peach together before applying on cheeks, around the hairline, jawline and chin - just where you would apply bronzer. But instead of a ruddyness you can get from bronzer, the blush gave a pretty warmth. But Pat warned me this works best over tanned skin so save this technique for high summer rather than early spring.
Last show, Missoni where Lucia Pieroni was creating a Japanese-inspired graphic eye with liner. When wearing liner sometimes it's hard to know whether to leave lashes bare, which can look odd, or apply mascara which can detract from the liner. Pieroni took a fan brush loaded with MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack, £15, and painted the models' lashes instead. Clever.
