Alex Box, one of the industry’s most imaginative make-up artists, tomorrow launches a coffee table beauty book filled with inspirational images. Alex, who counts ‘Francis Bacon and The Streets’ among her inspiration, is the creative force behind directional beauty brand Illamasqua.

Knowing Alex’s unconventional approach to make-up and beauty, her kit-bag is predictably quirky and includes a Pritt-stick which she uses ‘to block out models eyebrows’. The book is full of surprises; check out our sneak preview images below. Using everything from pure pigments to post-it notes, each model is transformed into an otherworldly form. Some are humorous, some colourful while others are downright disturbing, proving that Alex is constantly pushing the boundaries of beauty.

Having worked with the likes of and , Alex teamed up with ELLE’s favourite cover photographer Rankin (who shot the recent Lily Allen and Lindsay Lohan covers, fyi) to shoot the models for her publishing debut.

Alex told Beauty Notes Daily that she wants her book to ‘provoke thought and present unique and emotive forms of beauty’.

To get you thinking, there is an exhibition to accompany the launch, proving beauty can be a work of art too. The exhibition will run from 23 Oct – 22 November at the Annroy Gallery in Kentish Town, London (020 7284 7320).

Alex Box, £50, is available nationwide from 22 October.
