The Byron & Tracey salon in Beverly Hills is a hair mecca. Owned by Byron Williams, who also owns a line of haircare aptly named BYRON and Tracey Cunningham, Redken’s Creative Consultant for Colour, it’s become a Hills landmark and a regular pit-stop for the stars, plus the paps.

Their client list reads like a roll call of who’s who in Hollywood. Most recently Mischa Barton visited the salon for a colour change from brunette to blonde, but other regulars include (deep breath) Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Garner (pictured leaving the salon, above), Liv Tyler, Nicky Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Biel, Renee Zellweger, Nicole Richie, Leighton Meester, Kate Bosworth and Rachel Zoe. Phew!

With such an incredible list of fans, I called up Byron Williams, one half of the duo behind the salon, to find out his views on the hair trends for 2010.

On the hottest haircut

“Hair this season is cleaner and classier. In California long hair is always in, but rather than it being like a shag, our clients are going for blunt ends”.

On the must-have hair shade

“Tracey is finding a softer blonde is more popular right now, it’s a bit darker. Blonde will never be out, the colours are just deeper”.

On whether you can change you hair with diet

“A good diet really does matter, but good hair is mostly in the genes”.

On the most popular treatment

“Gloss is by far the most popular colour treatment. Our clients’ hair fades from running outside and from the sun. They always want shiny, bright, lustrous hair and a gloss over their existing colour helps them get that in just 30 minutes”.

On the salon’s bestselling product

“It has to be my Spirulina Hairspray!”

Said hairspray is popular with Rachel Zoe and was used backstage at the Erin Wasson X RVCA show during New York fashion week recently.

So, if you find yourself at LAX airport anytime soon, you know where your first pit stop should be. Taxi!
