Emma Watson's new haircut has divided the office. Some love the fresh, sophisticated new look and others long for her hair to be lengthy again. After much discussion we have come to the conclusion that it will grow on us (no pun intended). If you're thinking of opting for a Watson-esque haircut, but you're worried you won't know what to do with it once it's short, then follow these tips from Vidal Sassoon's Creative Director Mark Hayes.

On styling:

"There is a great fallacy that short hair ties you into one look, nothing could be further from the truth! Short hair is so easy to change. Maybe tousled and sassy (think the famous Sassoon shape on Mia Farrow. Sassoon's stylist Leonard also masterminded Twiggy's famous crop back in the 1960s) or super sophisticated (Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday). As Hollywood stars and supermodels alike have shown, with a flick of a comb and some lightweight products hair goes from day to evening with ease."

On make-up:

"With such a neat head shape, the emphasis should be placed on one area, maybe the eyes or the mouth. A modern paired down look that complements and accentuates your natural features looks great."

On what to wear:

"Although it is not necessary to completely overhaul your wardrobe, the liberating effect of a crop like Emma’s may inspire you to do so. The key trends for the coming season will all work with a new, neat crop. Menswear-inspired suiting and outerwear are key for the Autumn Winter season and were seen at Phoebe Philo's Celine and ultra on-trend Alexander Wang.

But, ultra feminine styling also works perfectly as a cool counterpoint to your new gamine crop. Really though (and most importantly) your own natural style and the shape and balance of your bone structure will be brought out by such a flattering look."

Team ELLE think Emma could work some intricate neck lines and stand-out statement necklaces, but we're also partial to the French look that Audrey Tatou does so well. Whatever style Emma chooses to match her new hair, we can't wait to see it.
