If you remember that episode of SATC where Carrie and Berger come to blows over a scrunchie, you’ll know it's not a cool topic to chat about. I'm bringing this up because Hillary Clinton has been wearing a scrunchie of late and the offending article is getting quite a bit of press of its own.

In the May issue of US ELLE Rachael Combe profiled the democrat's ability to balance work and life, but she also mentions Clinton’s obsession with the scrunchie. She writes, 'As a State Department official told me: “As a chick, it’s a big pain in the butt. The weather is different, and you’re in and out of the plane. [The staff] gets off that plane looking like garbage most days, but she has to look camera ready. She said the reason she grew her hair long was that it’s easier. She has options.” The official added, because, it seems, no American alive can resist critiquing Clinton’s hair: “...some of us are looking to ban the scrunchies.”

I kind of agree with the officials: a scrunchie and a suit do not a match make. But let me put my cards on the table, I don't mind a scrunchie - there I said it.

With stores like American Apparel (from £4.50) and Urban Outfitters (£5 for a pack of 2) championing the ruffle hairband, I think a more retro aesthetic works quite well with the controversial accessory. Here we've incorporated the scrunchie in to varying hairstyles - I've adorned my dolly bun and I roped Sarah Bonser in to using one to tie a side ponytail. What do you think? Will you be helping Clinton to bring back the scrunchie? Or leaving it as a distant memory along with other ‘dodgy’ trends like hair mascara and chopstick accessories?
