I met up with Bobbi Brown Senior Beauty Team Artist George Pelosi this week. I was in the mood for a beauty bag overhaul and turned to Bobbi Brown to get the lowdown on beautiful bases, wearable everyday colours and seamless, easy textures to replace my worn out, tired, old kit. The finished look she created for me was exactly what I was after - two different base options for different days and moods, a great, easy-to-use gel liner and a flattering lipstick that doesn't feel too daunting for a lip balm devotee like me. While she applied my make-up I jotted down some of her brilliant tips and tricks, here are my favourites that I think you need to know:
- When applying liquid eyeliner draw a flick on each eye as best you can, without worrying too much about getting the same shape at either end. Once you're done take a moistened cotton bud and push it into the gap at the very edge of your eye, between both sets of lashes (you'll find it naturally fits there anyway). Sweep outwards towards the top of your ear to remove any messy lines and get an even finish on both eyes.
- If you've overdone your blush application take the brush you applied your foundation with (or sponge, or even a little more foundation lightly patted on to fingers) and lightly blend the remnants from your brush over your blusher. not only does it temper too much colour, it adds a lovely glow-from-within haze which is really flattering.
- If you want to try shading on your eyes go for easy-to-blend cream shadows and choose two colours that are only a shade or two apart in depth. Trying to blend one very dark colour with one very pale colour will be much harder. press the lighter shade onto your lids then with a smaller brush wash the darker one in an arc over your socket line. use a fatter, softer brush to gently merge them together.
