I always look forward to a new Tom Ford campaign/billboard/show look, anything really, because deep down inside I would so love to be the Tom Ford Girl. Powerful, pristine, glossy and a little bit dangerous looking. In reality my dishevelled hair and chipped nails (who has time for a regular mani?) puts paid to that dream, but the London Fashion Week #TrialATrend train is my perfect opportunity.

'I'LL DO TOM FORD if you like...' I gently offer, midway through lunch on a tuesday afternoon. A deep-rooted eagerness to pull off the glossy bronze lash-to-brow look does not take into account a planned appointment at Atelier Josh Wood, or early evening dinner in the suburbs with my parents.

Step one - at my desk, surrounded by hardworking LFW reporters, I work just as hard on layering up liner with shadow with more shadow with kohl, mascara, and last step, lip gloss since there was no eye appropriate product to hand. My lids feel heavy and sticky and my hair is attracted to them like static.

The cab driver gives me a funny look, that may be down to numerous attempts to take my own picture the entire journey to Notting Hill. I forget I have a heavy eye makeup on once I've got used to the gloss, and actually its refreshing to catch a much more glamorous reflection at the hairdressers than I'm used to.

A rushed journey to meet my parents and I've totally forgotten I'm overly made up until my lovely dad says 'ooh darling, you look quite sexy'. Mission accomplished - thanks for the inspiration Charlotte Tilbury. If only it was someone other than my own father appreciating the effect...
