Beauty products may be tailor made for specific parts of the face but backstage on day three of LFW, artists threw away the make up manual and created their own rules. Product designers beware – because here’s our top four ways to move your make up into the new season.

The Ink Pen Eye at Mary Katranzou
Working with a designer known for her digitalised patterns and attention to detail, Val Garland wanted to incorporate the references to ink-printed money in the main collection into the make up look. Cue a blend of MAC’s Magenta and Blue Lipmixes moving northwards from the mouth to the eyelids in a thick, blocky shade that we’re calling “ballpoint blue”.

The Flashlight Lip at Paul Smith
Classic red lips be gone – Petros Petrohilos wants our pouts to really pop. Applying a base layer of MAC’s cult pillar-box lipstick shade Lady Danger, the Neo Orange eye pigment powder succumbed to gravity and was dusted over the top for a fluoro finish that’s designed to bounce in flashbulbs.

The New Lash Lines at Jonathan Saunders
Lucia Pieroni’s seventies disco punk who’d been up to mischief the night before was never going to bow to convention. So rather than falling into line at the base, MAC’s Blacktrack Fluidline crept up onto lashes for a worn-in smudgy look that had pulled an all-nighter.

The Total Topshop Mash Up
If Hannah Murray’s pretty take on nineties grunge at Topshop is anything to go by, rules are most certainly made to be broken. As the vino-like Beguiled lipstick floated up onto cheeks for a sheer, sporty flush, the Prime Time cream blush did the same, landing up on the eyelids to add a girly touch.
