Lately we've had a bit of a hair revelation in the ELLEuk office - one word: oil.
Our Travel Assistant Sara D'Souza's fine, virgin, hair has been looking lacklustre and flyaway of late; at the end of her tether and having tried everything else, I slipped her a sample size of Schwarzkopf Professional BC Bonacure Oil Miracle Light Finishing Treatment, £20.99 (feelunique.com), to test. After just a couple of applications of the oil (on damp hair, before styling) she has seen her tresses perk up no end. The botanical oils are specially formulated for fine hair (they also do a more robust version for thick hair), and as long as you keep it away from the roots you don't need to worry about greasyness or it weighing your hair down.
For me, you can't beat the cult (now classic) Moroccanoil Treatment, £30.45 (HQHair.com; it also comes in a light version for fine hair). I coloured my thick, course, blonde hair red so it could be rescued from the oh-so damaging bleach; since then I've been literally drowning my mid-lengths and ends with the oil, miraculously they now feel as soft and silky as the baby hair at the roots. Hoo-ray!
If you want to try hair oils, it's worth spending a bit of money to get a good one. Escentual.com sell the sample size of the Schwarzkopf oils for £3, so you can try before you buy; Moroccanoil also sells 25ml bottles for £12.85 (HQHair.com). If you do want a high street version, you can't beat VO5's Miracle Concentrate Elixir with Argan Oil, £4.99, and at that price you can slather it on to your ‘hair's’ content.
