This weekend I was not only Bridesmaid at a wedding, but also unofficial foundation applier to the other four maids. On the day I came to rely on two primers to keep our vast array of foundation shades in place.

First up, we all switched our usual moisturiser for Smashbox's Photo Finish Hydrating Primer, £31 (debenhams.com). Of course, I wouldn't advocate skipping moisturiser everyday but this oil-free primer contains Hydraplex12 an extract derived from desert plants which works brilliantly at holding onto moisture, so our skin didn't feel dry or tight throughout the day. Plus, the lack of an emollient on the skin meant the primer and foundation were less likely to slide.

Next, I used Bourjois Translucent Smoothing Primer, £9.99 (out nationwide from February), which has a velvet texture to pad out fine lines, enlarged pores and to add extra 'cling' to the areas that tend to lose foundation fast - the nose and chin. Both products worked hard for us so we could fully concentrate on our bridesmaid duties (and drinking wine, of course).
