Short and rounded has been the nail shape du-jour for decades. But now there is a new shape in town – long and very pointy.

On the music scene the biggest stars have been rocking this look for a while. Rihanna flaunted an enviable powder blue set in her What’s My Name video. Beyonce chose pale turquoise pointy nails for her Why Don’t You Love Me video; rich green pointed talons, with gold nail jewels, for Run The World (Girls); and most recently gold in her new video for single Best Thing I Never Had.

Obviously, Lady Gaga who is no stranger to any trend has flaunted pointy nails for a long time in too many shades and patterns for me to list here!

Most recently I spotted Jessie J rocking the shape, painted gold at Glastonbury, while Adele chose a classic red, pointed nail for her performance at the iTunes Festival 2011 in Camden last night; maybe she took inspiration from Beyonce who rocked red on stage at Glasto?

This is a definite music star look; the trend has been on a few catwalks, mostly created by nail legend Sophy Robson at shows like House of Holland, YSL and Ungaro, but, it’s yet to make a big dent in the fashion world. However, that could be set to change since Gossip Girl star and face of Chanel handbags Blake Lively was spotted with pointy nails recently. While the music pack go all out with day-glo colours and crazy prints, Blake chose to keep her nails natural.
