The Twisted Up-do: hair how-to

By Amy Lawrenson

The other day one of my colleagues Patricia, our Commercial Editor, came into work with the prettiest, twisted up-do.

Here she reveals why she loves it and how you can get the look at home:

‘This style is great for those in-between hair washing days as it does not tend to hold so well when the hair is squeaky clean’ she told me.

1. Create a rough centre parting, dividing the hair evenly into two sections.

2. Take a small strand of hair at the front of the face and twist it in on itself, then introduce another strand of hair to the twist.

3. Working from your centre parting towards the nape of the neck, keep taking small sections of hair and wrapping them around your twist – it will start getting thicker as you reach your ear.

4. Continue in this way, just past the ear, then gather the remaining hair and begin to plait – it does not have to be too even, but you should make sure it’s quite tight. Fasten with a hair band.

5. Repeat all of the above on the opposite side.

6. Now you should have two plaits; twist them together and pull into a bun at the nape of your neck. It should look quite rough and textured.

7. Finally, secure any loose sections with kirby grips, but keep some flyaway hair here and there for a soft, undone feel.

What do you think... will you be giving it a go?
