Yesterday at t Val Garland was inspired by Catherine Deneuve in The Hunger and I was inspired enough to give it a try.

See it's not a straightforward smoky eye, a section in the centre is softer, there's a flick at the outer edges and a little curl that snakes around the inner corners of each eye.

Using a black Rimmel crayon I had in my make-up bag and a whole load of cotton buds I set to work initially drawing the outline, next shading in and then finally tidying the edges.

Once my right eye was perfected I used that as a guide for my left. It took about 10 minutes to do both.

Verdict: with smoky eyes set up be a trend for autumn the way you can make the classic look exciting is by playing with the shape and texture. This takes practice and is definitely a statement look, but play down the rest of your make-up and it's pretty cool.
