Red is so classic and pink is a little frivolous. Orange on lips feels right this season, it looks cool not too try hard. It's neither too serious or too girly. It's perfection. Texture-wise, go matte or glossy, it's up to you. I would usually go matte so I tried a vinyl finish instead by layering an orange-red lipstick I had at the bottom of my make-up bag with Nars' Lip Gloss in Wonder, £17.50, a glimmering, bold orange gloss.

With a pout that's so... pouty thanks to the thick layer of gloss (I didn't hold back in the application) I kept the rest of my make-up pared back. A little bronzer on the cheeks - although this deep orange hue instantly gives even the most sallow complexions glow, and a slight slick of mascara.

I'm a fan of this versatile lip, it's the perfect beauty accessory for summer and will go with smart culottes, a white sundress or this season's jacket of choice - the bomber.
