Utilitarian Sleek

By Bella Blissett

It was as if the panels of black broken up by flashes of colour in the main collection had crept upwards to be perfectly mimicked on the face.

If Pat McGrath's metallic swoosh of metallic illuminating the eyes provided the showstopper, Guido's pared-down pony added a toughened-up vibe that meant business.

From New York to London, London to Milan, ponies have once again provided an ever-constant presence on the list of 'styles we'll have a bash at back home'. Why? Because the merest tweak of texture, positioning or finish will have the maximum effect in terms of switching up your overall look.

For SS13, ponies seem to have found common ground in being neat and tidy. Parted left, right or bang in the centre, the new season pony has been called "clean", "sleek" and "simple" at Daks,Peter Pilotto,Caroline Charles and Christopher Kane.

Back at Dior, Guido went straight back off the face, blow drying Redken Satin Wear 02 into hair to get it super smooth. A touch of Argan 6 gave any remaining flyaways no chance at all as he pulled hair back into a low pony on the nape.

A twist of Fashion Work 12 spray through the tail to add a hint of natural movement finished a season of ponies with a Parisian style that's never going to allow itself to be pushed around.
