Wham, bam, Warhol thank you Maam

When Vivienne Westwood said "royalty", Val Garland replied "Warhol". Therein a vision of cartoon craziness was born.

In a heaving backstage area at the Foreign Office, pictures of Warhol's Pop Art prints lined the mirrors as Garland's team turned models' skin Skittles shades of pink, green and a "sick yellow" using MAC's Chromacake paints. A strong brow and clashing lip later and the girls had taken on a cartoon-like character.

"Think the Queen meets a bad Elizabeth Taylor or an odd Marilyn Monroe with a passing nod to Debbie Harry and an occasional reference to Grace Jones," said Garland.

Queenly grey and brown wigs styled by Toni and Guy's Mark Hampton met with Marianne Newman's fifties inspired Nail Rock wraps in coral, blush rose and cream half moon designs in a look so raving mad we almost didn't recognise the girl peeping out from behind a green face, blue eyes and baby pink lips: None other than Elle's new backstage buddy, Charlotte Free.
