Have you got your October issue of ELLE yet? In our feature “How to shape your face with your brows”, we guide you through a brow masterclass, helping you to find the right shape and tools to ensure you create the perfect brow for your face. But just to ensure you don’t have any ‘plucking’ mishaps, we paid a visit to brow expert extraordinaire, Shavata, for her top 5 brow-shaping tips…

  • If you want bolder looking brows, trimming any stray hairs and creating a blunt edge will instantly thicken them up. Make sure you use brow-shaping scissors with straight blades, curved ones will create an uneven and ‘gappy’ brow.

  • Use two mirrors when you’re plucking, a magnifying one to see the tiny downy hairs, and a large face mirror so you can see the overall look of your brows.

  • Don’t panic if one brow looks slightly different to the other, nobody has matching brows, it’s quite normal to have one higher than the other for instance.

  • To create the perfect arch, use your index finger to lift your brow upwards, not outwards, or you’ll be stuck with an odd ‘surprised’ look.

  • If you make a mistake and pluck out a hair in the wrong place – stop! Don’t carry on plucking out more to try and correct it. Fill in any gaps using a brow pencil and wait for the hair to grow back, the cycle of growth for brows is 8-13 weeks.
