So, last night I went for a very long tea with Mariah Carey at The Dorchester. I say it was with Mariah Carey, half of it was, the first half of it was just waiting for Mariah to arrive. At least there was cake.

Interviewed by T4’s Rick Edwards about her new fragrance Forever, Mariah didn’t pretend to have been sat in a lab wearing a white sequinned lab coat, sampling different scents. She was ‘involved’ she said, but had been busy working on her music and new film Precious at the same time. And the result? Surprisingly chic, for a celebrity fragrance. Floral and fresh, you’ll be able to pick out appealing hints of gardenia and tuberose.

Mariah does have advice on how to wear it though: buy the perfume complete with dabber to place the fragrance from head to toe; including, of course, the cleavage. Then use the spritz version to spray a mist which ‘you can walk through’.

The bottle is very deco and was inspired by her ‘old Hollywood’ apartment. She has a perfume bottle collection, which she keeps in her bathroom. ‘I said to the team “let’s go into my bathroom and take a look.” It sounds disgusting, but it’s actually a big room.’

The fragrance will be stocked exclusively in Boots and then nationwide from Valentine’s Day. When Rick asked Mariah if she had a Boots Advantage Card, the singer said she didn’t and asked whether she could have one. But surprisngly, when Rick explained the purpose of it is to get things for free, she didn’t seem to think it was for her.
