'Milan is all about lips' exclaimed Gordon Espinet, MAC's Global Vice President of make-up artistry on the first day of Milan Fashion Week, a statement to which we can attest having witnessed a plethora of punchy, pumped-up pink pouts.

At Blu Girl dewy, 'humid' skin was offset with crimson lipstick pressed softly on to lips with fingers to add a girlish naivety to faces while at Antonio Marras, the look was fresh and youthful, thanks to a pop of rosy blush and a painterly flush of pink on the lips (not to mention a smattering of drawn-on freckles).

Completing the line up were the models at Cheap & Chic who sported a 'super pretty super rosy' look, created by make-up artist Sam Bryant. Layers of bright fuchsia lipstick were pressed on to lips and covered in clear gloss till it looked ‘plastic-y and like jelly.’ The key to keeping this look sweet not scary? 'Apply strong colours with your fingers rather than a brush so the edges are soft and muted' says Bryant.

So, day one in the Italian capital and it's looking pretty rosy.
