And, finding the one that does just the job can be tricky.

After trying endless hair styling options and methods, I’ve discovered that one product alone is not going to cut it – or give my virginal, slippery hair the dishevelled slept-in look I’m after.  In exactly the way that you approach make-up: layering and using products together to compliment each other and create a look – I’ve found you need a small arsenal of products at hand to get the specific hair look you’re after too.

Here’s my holy trinity of styling products that give me exactly the hair I’m after. On their own they’re good, but used together they are quite brilliant.

(NB: All applied to damp hair, in this order)

Volume Style Root Lifting Spray, £16, by Paul Labrecque

Apply a liberal spritz from root to tip after using the Volumising shampoo from the same range (FYI: also a brilliant find), and massage right into the hair.

Thickening Hairspray, £20, by Bumble and Bumble

This classic product swells hair, adds definition and smells delicious. As it’s a very fine mist you can afford to spray it all over without it weighing your hair down.

Rock Chick Wave Spray, £5.99, by James Brown Scandalous

My favourite new discovery. Finish up with this product through the lengths of hair to get that sexy, beachy, messed-up texture – think Kate Moss meets Brigitte Bardot.
