In their pots and palettes they look so alluring, but often they need to be really worked or mixed with other colours to give their best performance. Sometimes, they’re just tricky to get right. So, I’m always on the look out for ones that deliver.

My newest, hottest find is MAC’s Eye Shadow in Buckwheat, £11, part of the brand’s new Naked Honey range. It looks ordinary enough in its little black pot, but this coppery-brown shade brings lids – and eyes – to life. It’s dark enough to add flattering definition and sexy smokiness but soft enough, thanks to tiny particles of shimmery gold, to wear day or night with no commitment – just press it over lids (I use my finger), add your eye liner and mascara of choice and you’re good to go.

One of the most flattering eye shadows I’ve used in a very long time – and on counter as of yesterday. Go buy.
