Apart from the fact all the lacquers are free from formaldehyde and other could-probably-do-without chemicals, the creamy formulations are loaded with pigment and come in a range of cool, covetable colours that reference current catwalk trends but are deliciously different and quirky, too.

This season, the range features some brilliant brights, including Cheeky Chops, a sunny yellow, and Artful Dodger, an on-trend teal that already has a waiting list.

At £10 a bottle, the Butter London polishes are a pretty accessible way to enjoy a mini fashion moment, but if your budget’s stretched tighter than a Hervé Léger bandage dress, and you happen to be nearby, head to the Oasis store on London’s Argyll Street this evening (between 5pm and 9pm) where Butter founder Nonie Crème and her team will be doing shape and polishes using the new-season colours – for free.

Something else for free: follow Nonie’s advice for photo-finish nails and always carry out a ‘cuticle exfoliation’ before applying colour. ‘Use a little cuticle-softening cream, push the cuticle back using an orange stick with some cotton wool, then use your thumb nail to sweep off excess skin,’ she says.
