Historically, fashion brands have done an impressive job moving into the beauty arena cases in point: Chanel, YSL and Dior and we at ELLE were on tenterhooks earlier in the year waiting for the first samples to arrive. Unsurprisingly, the Italian designers have made an impressive splash with a characteristically glam range.
Simply called The Make Up, the highlights of the collection include the rich, waxy Crayon Intense Eyeliners, £16, especially Dahlia (a metallic burgundy) and Stromboli (a dark black-green with alluring gold sparkles), the Smooth Eyecolour Duos, £22, and Smooth Eyecolour Quads, £35, (featuring lots of very luscious, covetable colours for your lids), and the Classic Cream Lipsticks, £20, which have all been infused with a romantic, powdery rose scent and come in six shades of red alone.
All come in elegant, gold metal compacts and tubes that are reminiscent of old-style Hollywood and which Messrs Dolce and Gabbana worked very hard to get just right, apparently. It paid off as the packaging is one of the best bits about the range glamorous, weighty and with a click you can hear across town.
The range starts from £16 for a Precision Lip Liner, Crayon Intense Eyeliner or Intense Nail Laquer and is available now in Selfridges and Harrods from August.
