Hair today…

Recently, we asked you whether you liked the hair extensions Katie Holmes put in for a public appearance in Tokyo back in March.

When 70 per cent of you responded, yes, we decided to ELLE-test the latest salon extensions – and had a bit of a mixed reaction ourselves.

While one member of the ELLE team has successfully worn hair extensions for three years to fill out her fine hair, another one found hers ‘too heavy, too hard to wear and incredibly high maintenance.’

Like everything artificial done in the name of beauty – eyelash extensions, fake tans, fake nails – hair extensions require lots of time and attention in order to look as good as they did the day you had them done. And therein lies the rub as far as I’m concerned: when tending to your various cosmetic addendums robs you of time and spontaneity, they just ain’t that beautiful anymore.

Personally, I’m with Katie when it comes to hair enhancement – great for special occasions or the occasional image overhaul, less sexy in real life. (I’m assuming that’s why she had hers taken out again.)

Find out in our ELLE Tests feature on Monday what the rest of the team thought – and which hair extensions are worth the spend.
