The exotic, California-style boot camp made famous by such places as The Ahsram (where Hollywood actresses go to get in shape before a movie) and Wild Fitness, has finally arrived in the UK. So now you can punish your body right here in England. Somerset to be precise.

No.1 Boot Camp (www.no1bootcamp.com) was launched last summer and courses, which are based at an enormous country pile near Taunton, last a week. You may not get the weather but No 1’s a lot more convenient not to mention several thousand pounds cheaper than its foreign counterparts, plus it pretty much does the same thing:

Gruelling 12-hours-a-day fitness regime? Check. Expect to be exercising from 6.30am until 6pm under the strict supervision of former Navy Physical Training Instructors. Together with circuits and cardio workouts there is a four-hour hike every afternoon, as well as yoga and stretching.

Strict detox food? Check. During a rare breather, you’ll sit down to tasty but very light meals, such as grilled salmon with greens or red peppers stuffed with veg, all prepared by an ex Oxo Tower chef. Breakfast is normally porridge.

Celeb clientle? Check (-ish). Meg Matthews and Sophie Anderton have been.

Extreme results? Check. Most boot campers lose between 8 and 16lbs in a week.

The next dates available are the 14th-20th March and ELLE readers get a 20% discount. So if you want to want to kick-start your summer body countdown but could do with someone else to crack the whip for you, book now. And let me know how you get on.
