With her molten gold dress, liquid caramel highlights and gleaming bronze eyes and cheeks, there wasn’t one bit of Leighton Meester’s New York Fashion week look that didn’t melt beautifully into the rest.

But she doesn’t just look polished here, she’s on-trend, too. I’ve spoken to a lot of make-up artists since fashion month started and a ‘smoky’ bronze eye teamed with gently glowing skin is definitely a key look this season. ‘It’s gorgeous and glamorous,’ gushed Charlotte Tilbury. ‘It makes every eye colour glow,’ said Terry Barber.

Tempted? Start by (lightly) lining eyes with a ‘bright’ brown, such as Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Bronze Shimmer Ink or Chocolate Shimmer Ink, £13.21 each. Then layer a copper tone, such as Guerlain’s Eyeshadow in L’Instant Cuir, £17.61, over a cool golden shade (try MAC Eyeshadow in Goldmine, £9.79). Blend the colours over your eyelids and through the sockets and it’ll give a pretty burnished light to the rest of your face.

But keep sheen on eyes only. For cheeks, mix pink and brown for a soft, warm glow or, if you’re saving the look for summer, try it with Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Sunblush Illuminator, £25, which will be available from May. It’s an irresistible pinky-bronze.

On lips, Estée Lauder Pure Colour Lipstick in Honey Pink, £14.68, is the perfect pinky-brown. Or try Estée Lauder Signature Hydra Lustre Lipstick in Burnished Bronze, £14.68. Prep lips with plenty of balm, then layer on the lipstick with a bit more balm till the texture’s juicy and the colour’s just how you like it.
