(FYI: it’s not on counter till June but there’s plenty to look forward to, including at least two hero products in the making.) But while the flawless skin, dewy cheeks and elegant washes of colour on eyelids were attention-worthy, it was the hair I couldn’t take my eyes off.

Stylist Odile Gilbert had parted hair down the middle and pulled it into two tight plaits, which she tied together using a thick coating of grosgrain ribbon in pretty oatmeal to form a loop. She finished off with a little bunch of silk violets, tied just off centre at the bottom of the loop.

The result? Sweet, simple and completely sophisticated.

I’ll be trying the same look at home with grosgrain ribbon, from £1.27 per metre, from VV Rouleaux. I’ll add little silk flowers for evening – Artificial Florist have a good selection from £1.97 per stem or try V V Rouleaux for cotton daisies in soft pink or green, £8.

Urban milk-maid with a twist.
