Between her jam-packed filming schedule, we caught up with Australian actress and Blue Jasmine star Cate Blanchett to talk beauty, hair disasters and just how she keeps her skin so immaculate
What are your absolute hero beauty products?
Dry skin is the worst, and I hate having dry lips so I always keep my Lucas Paw Paw Ointment handy. And a really great mascara, Tom Ford is my favourite.
You travel so much, any tips for getting over jetlag?
For tiredness I always take Vitamin C tablets and once I get to a new place I like to spend as much time outside as possible to acclimatise. But I am really regimented with my SPF, I use a Swiss brand called DayLong.
Your skin is immaculate, has it always been so?
No! I went through hormonal surges and bouts of stressed skin. But since using the SK-II range consistently Ive noticed a huge difference as Im not swapping and changing products anymore. My skin still has its ups and downs but it definitely tolerates more and feels luminous.
Whats your fall-back beauty look?
Were all time poor, right? Im always running late and tearing out of the house so often Im doing my make-up in the car, anything I can do one handed! Ill leave the house without my make-up on but never without my skincare.
What do you keep in your handbag?
I rely on blusher for an instant perk-up. I use Tarte Cheek Stain, its so easy to just throw on, or anything that comes in a compact.
Are there any beauty looks you really admire but wouldnt try yourself?
I dont think I could rock the big eyebrows like you, but I love brows. I also love a strong lip but its high maintenance for day-to-day.
How do you feel most comfortable?
Even when Im wearing make-up I dont like to feel it, I hate that over-powdered feeling so I always spray SKI-11 Facial Essence over the top. It doesnt smudge my make-up, it keeps it looking fresh.
What was your very first fragrance and what memory does it evoke?
It was sandalwood; my favourite smells, apart from the smell of my children when theyre clean, are freshly cut grass, firewood, sandalwood. It makes me think of home.
How do you decide on a red carpet look?
Its got to be spontaneous. I dont like over planning, it comes form the dress.
You can admire a dress but if it doesnt work on you then it just doesnt work and its the same with beauty.
Are you experimental with your beauty choices?
Experimental with my fashion choices than with my beauty. When I found a skincare range which really worked for me I didnt look back because I felt more confident in my skin. I use the entire SK-II range religiously.
I used to love having facials, when I went to Eve Lom herself she was fantastic! Im a great lover of acupuncture, and I love a therapeutic massage not a feathery massage, I want to feel its doing something.
Do you have a cheat for dull or tired skin?
I swear by the SK-II Facial Treatment Masks when I need a boost. I put them in the fridge before applying.
A Berroca, a vitamin c tablet and fizzy water plus a really good concealer! Failing that wear a bright lip and people wont notice the bags under your eyes.
Have you ever had any beauty disasters?
When I was at school I bleached my hair white and then tried to go back to my natural colour, I didn't even know what it was anymore! When I went to the salon my hair literally went purple green and grey so I had to cut it all off. It was like a toilet brush!
