It's 5pm on a Friday and ELLE HQ closes at 6pm. I have one hour to finish my never-ending to do list before breaking up for Christmas holidays and need a make-up look that is easy, makes an impact and, for #Trialatrend purposes, puts me out of my comfort zone. Blue eyes definitely ticks all the above.
First spotted backstage at the AW13 Topshop Unique show, I loved the unashamedly bold eye but in my day-to-day routine I'd never give it a second thought as I always opt for lipstick as my pick-me-up addition of colour. Turns out my admiration for the cobalt blue eye should have remained with my fond backstage memories, because in reality I look like a 80's porn star at best, punched in the face at worst.
With time against me I do a quick whip around the office to ask my colleagues (and ever truthful critics) for their verdict...
'A fancy dress mermaid'
'Well that's, erm, interesting'
'Intriguing but definitely not one for the office'
If I was to do it again I'd opt for a toned down lip and spend an extra few minutes buffing the edges of the shadow for a subtler (and less scary) look.
