Spa Review: Sequoia

An ELLE favourite

The Grove is one hotel that ELLE goes back to time and time again. Why? Because every time we stay we have a totally different experience.

Besides the spa (we’ll come to that in a minute) there is the walled garden complete with ‘urban beach with volleyball’; you can borrow bicycles to explore the grounds and surrounding woods, or try your hand at golf.

If that all sounds a bit too ‘active’ then there is the Sequoia, where you can while away the hours (it’s truly one of our favourite spas). On offer are ESPA and Natura Bisse treatments, you can take a dip in the indoor pool, the plunge pool or relax in the sauna and Jacuzzi.

ELLE tried the Natura Bisse Project X Diamond Destress Treatment, £150, which involved the ‘aligning of chakras’, application of mud shot through with diamond dust rubbed into the skin to exfoliate before it was removed using magnets for a mess-free experience. It was relaxing, skin was left incredibly glowing and healthy-looking, but if you’re in the market for a deep tissue massage, this is not for you. The relaxation room is a dimly lit room with beds where you could happily nod off post-treatment. Complimentary teas, water and fruit are served throughout the spa. Obviously some dried fruit will only keep you satiated for so long, lucky then that The Grove boasts three restaurants – Colette’s for fine dining, The Stables for everything from stone-baked pizza to steak, and the Glasshouse where breakfast is served in the mornings, and a very good (too good) buffet at night (pack something with an elasticated waist).

Best for: a romantic getaway or break with friends

Prices: Spa days from £195, mini spa days £175 (arrive from 2pm), Bed & Breakfast, from £310 per room per night.
