Kim Kardashian shared the first in a new series of 'From the Desk Of' first-person features on her new website/app this morning, discussing her thoughts about Caitlyn Jenner's transition some more, because isn't that something you'd pay $2.99 a month to read?! (Actually, you don't even need to pay; it's one of the free pieces. Woo!)
While she (and other Kardashians) have spoken of the time she walked in on Caitlyn, then Bruce, wearing women's clothing, Kim says she'd heard rumors of this as a child — she'd overheard her father Robert joking about the subject on the phone. Kim says she only told Kourtney about the about the latter incident, not her other siblings or mama Kris. 'I guess I thought it would break up her marriage,' she explains, 'and Kendall and Kylie were so young.' 'I literally tuned it out for over a decade,' she notes.
Kim says Caitlyn approached her to discuss the subject those years later, but still didn't believe speculation of her transition until, really, it was happening. "When I began seeing pictures of Bruce with his nails painted and those reports that he had his trachea shaved, I started to freak out ... at that point, I still thought he wanted it to be a secret,' she writes. 'I didn't understand why he was being careless and getting caught if he didn't want to reveal anything," Kim continues, because, after all, the Kardashians are nothing if not paparazzi-savvy.
The final confirmation from Caitlyn was 'a huge weight off my shoulders,' Kim says. 'Is it weird for me? Yes,' she concludes, but notes she's happy, proud, and thrilled, even, that Caitlyn is now living [her] authentic self.' (Throughout the piece, Kim identifies Caitlyn pre-transition with male pronouns, which have changed here where necessary.) She says their relationship is now even stronger than it was pre-transition and notes that they've bonded in particular over their makeup routines — remember when Caitlyn offered to paint Kim's nails? 'What could be better than that?' Kim asks, of their sharing 'glam tips,' though she makes a point of clarifying that Caitlyn's coming to her for the lip liner advice, and not vice versa, thanks very much.
