We heard the rumours, we waited till we got in the same room as Alexa Chung so we could see the return to her natural hair colour roots for ourselves, and then we chatted all things hair and beauty over a peppermint tea and some fruit skewers.

So, you’ve changed your hair colour
'I have, very subtly. I just wanted it to look less dip-dye because I was very much over that look'
But you kind of championed that look
'I did but you know the times are changing and it’s good to progress. I just felt a bit scruffy and ratty and so we dyed it more like my natural root colour and Joe (Jose Quijano from Nevilles Hair & Beauty) just sort of matched that very wonderfully and it made it shinier, so that’s a bonus. They used INOA to make ribbons of colour which makes it look natural.'

Do you think ombre is over?
'Maybe. It still looks nice though, if you’ve got longer hair I think it looks lovely. I just had done it to death. I kind of wanted to look like Kurt Cobain, so we just ripped it off.'

Who inspires your look now?

'There’s a picture of Marianne Faithfull in a café leaning forward and cut-wise that’s sort of the inspiration. Colour-wise I just like Helmut Newton babes.'

Does your hair affect your outfit choices?

'The longer length does just in that I feel more girly so I can get away with uglier things, although I always wore boyish things anyway. I just feel less like a buldog. If you’ve got a deep voice and you’re pretty sassy, or feisty, I think it can all be a bit much'

Is your texture natural?
'Well I tong it, it does naturally go like that a bit, but I’ll wake up and put it behind my ears so it gets a bend. I’ve got massive ears so it holds it for ages. But generally blow-dry to give it body and then tong it and let it drop out. I put some dry shampoo in it and maybe some L’Oréal Mythic Oil in the ends.''

Do you have any other beauty staples?
'The only thing I’m loyal to is perfume because I think it’s important to have a signature scent. I like Le Labo in Santal 33 but other than that I experiment with different brands. I love paw-paw cream for my lips or if you want to splash out,Crème de la Mer is as good as they say. Makeup wise I’m quite simple, I don’t have a makeup bag that I take everywhere, but if I do remember I’ll put in concealer and a lipstick.'

And what about hair?
'I change shampoos quite a lot because sometimes it gets build-up, but I dyed my hair on Saturday and then I’ve been using L’Oréal Professionnel INOA care shampoo and conditioner to maintain the colour.'

How do you travel and work so much and stay peppy?

'I don't know, I'm very tired a lot of the time. I eat a lot of avocados, I feel like if I didn’t eat avocados I might have passed away a long time ago because they’re so good for you. Sweet potatoes, I’ma vegetarian and I’m aware that you need to get iron so I eat spinach and broccoli, I don’t take any supplements though, I probably should! A whisky a day keeps the doctor away.'

Have you been following the shows?
'I didn’t have a chance to but it always manages to filter into my mind. I loved Christopher Kane’s and Ashley Williams was really good, and I heard that Henry’s show was brilliant this season, did you see it? It was a bit more grown-up and sort of quite sophisticated.'
