This morning Sam McKnight created one of my favourite hair-do's of Milan so far, and that's saying something! There's been everything from natural waves to intricate twists and slicked back sleek wet-looks. I'm not brave enough to try the wet-look just yet (although the snow in Milan is making my hair involuntarily embrace this) but this stylish, classic ponytail had me from the get-go.

The look was based on 'an Italian version of a young British woman', so where better to channel the look than Milan? Surely this is the audience the look was destined for, so I'm hoping it will go down well…
To start with I take Sam's advice and backcomb some volume into my roots to give the look a bit of bounce. Then I take my curling tongs and do some gentle and big waves to create some depth and texture to my snow-ruined hair. Next I do my center parting (I'm usually a middle-parting girl) and sweep my hair into a low-ish pony at the back of my neck. I take a strand out of the pony to wrap around the knot (clever trick to hide your bobble and looks great too). Two kirby grips to secure it, a spritz of hairspray and I'm good to go.

I go to meet the other beauty journalists in the hotel reception and at first I'm greeted with 'have you changed your outfit?', 'Nope, just my hair' I answer. I thought it was great that a hairstyle that only took 10 minutes could impact on your entire outfit. The other girls were equally lovely about my do.

Verdict: Quick and easy to do, really wearable for day or night and flattering too. It also made me feel a bit more glamorous - always welcome when you're in a room full of impeccably glossed and preened models for half the day.
Time taken: 10 minutes
