New York Fashion Week’s Retrospective Beauty Looks AW13

We've spotted a retro trend at NYFW AW13...

Think New York Fashion Week, think retrospective, with vintage classics popping up again and again. From Lady Mary-esque finger waves and bold brows at Naeem Khan to glossy Studio 54 waves at Diane von Furstenberg, we can’t get enough of a classic resurgence on the ELLE beauty desk, and so far this season is no exception.

Orlando Pita turned the girls at Carolina Herrera into an army of immaculate dolls, with updated victory rolls. The sharp centre parting brings the look up-to-date, made all the more beautiful by make-up artist Diane Kendal. She complemented the look with bare-ish skin - using MAC’s Studio Moisture Fix SPF15 - and dusky plum eyes with pretty pink lips. It was pared down elegance to perfection.
Next up, Marc by Marc Jacobs. The curls were huge (and we mean HUGE), masterminded by Redken's creative director Guido, with a bright glossy red lip by makeup artist Dick Page. Supersized is a theme we hope to see more of as the month goes on.
Rag & Bone went ‘cool, but pretty' according to Gucci Westman who created the look with a retro black eyeliner flick using Revlon Colourstay Liquid Eye Pen. A 2013 injection meant a chic nude lip with deep side parting. Gucci also took her expertise to Kaufman Franco ‘I was inspired by Brigitte Bardot, and classic Parisian women from the 60’s, so this look is all about the eyes’. Heavy fringes, backcombed roots and cat-eyes earned a definite place on our new season hit-list.
One of our favourites from the New York shows has to be Diane von Furstenberg’s bold lip. Oh how we love a lip, and this hot summer shade championed by make-up artist James Kaliardos is fall-off-our-chairs amazing. 'Processed Magenta' from MAC is our tip for autumn/winter – but we think you should make space in your make-up bag right now.
