While Botox and even breast augmentation are pretty commonplace, there is a different procedure soaring in popularity, brachioplasty or more commonly known as the upper-arm lift.

According to a new report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) more than 15,000 patients (98% of whom were women) spent $61 million on arm liposuction last year. That’s a 4000% upsurge since the 338 patients who first had the procedure (which involves removing excess skin) back in 2000.

So why the sudden surge? While the ASPS didn’t attribute one particular reason, a poll it carried out found that some A-list celebrities could be inspiring people to book in. When asked which celebrity they’d most want arms like? Michelle Obama came first in the poll with 31%, closely followed by Jennifer Aniston at 29% and in third place Jessica Biel at 16%.

Before you possibly consider a treatment that costs $3,939 (on average), remember that Obama is awesome at push-ups (she works out every day) and Jennifer Aniston attributes her toned limbs to her yoga guru Mandy Ingber; they put in the time and they’ve reaped the benefits.
