Taking A Shine to Summer

We first spotted it back in London. A slick here at Nicole Farhi. A smoosh there at Roksanda Ilincic. A little light reflecting pop at Jonathan Saunders. We are of course talking about glossy eyes.

But now it seems that gloss has packed its bags, snuck onto the Eurostar and come prepared to set eyes a-glimmer everywhere in Paris. So we donned our beauty binoculars and stalked this shine-creator to give you the rundown on our favourite glossy lid looks.

We don’t know how it got passed the strict bouncers but gloss first popped up at the Grand Palais for Issey Miyake. MAC Lip Glass teamed up with PRO Pigment in Platinum to give these girls a just-walked-out-of the-water sheen.

To an abandoned sports arena in the 12e arondissement did gloss then go to settle upon the lids of Haider Ackermann’s graceful beauties inspired by birds of paradise.

Clearly wanting to cash in on the city's creative vibe, gloss then got itself into Les Beaux-Arts de Paris to sneak up on Veronique Leroy’s naughty schoolgirls. It may have been the 20 or so coats of mascara that made this eye a real statement – but it was the subtle lick of gloss across the lid that gave it an extra light-bouncing glow.

Not content with a spot of Paris sightseeing, today gloss made a beeline for l’Ecole de Medecine and the Giambattista Valli show. There, nestled in the palm of Val Garland, MAC’s fleshy-toned Summer Sweetheart gloss from the SS13 Archie comics collection was destined to make its way onto both lips and luminous lids that had a merest hint of pink.
