EBT got the weekend off to an early start yesterday and travelled to Cornwalls Port Eliot festival with Bumble and bumble to see backstage hair stylist Neil Moodie in action.
Bumble and bumble have set up home in the grounds of Port Eliot house and were yesterday educating festival goers in the way of the braid.
Moodie (whose backstage credentials include Burberry and Margaret Howell to name just two) began by demonstrating Dutch braiding. We were on hand taking notes so that you (and us) and can recreate the look at home.
Dutch braiding is basically a French braid in reverse instead of passing the sections of hair over one another it is taken underneath.
Begin the plait behind your ear so you cant see where it begins. Remember this is a traditional three-way plait, just woven from behind. Keep the plait close to your scalp like a cornrow, but the plait thick. If you have fine hair, Moodie recommends using some thickening products like Bumble and bumble Thickening Hair
Spray to give your hair some guts before braiding.
According to Moodie, this style is best done on day-2 hair so that the style stays in place.
Once you have your plait started, braid around your hair line gradually working the plait in towards your crown and pinning in place with hair-grips.
Bumble and bumble have created colour hair sprays for the festival (were trying to convince them to sell them!) and so to finish Moodie sprayed the outer plait purple and the inner plait peach.
