One for your Little Black Beauty Book

The up-and-coming nail artist you should book in with

By Amy Lawrenson

It's no shock that I'm a little obsessed with nail art (see my recent nail creations here). It's not that I don't appreciate the simple elegance of a nude nail (I'm wearing Essie classic Ballet Slippers as I type) but nail art sure does make a statement.

Which is why when I popped to get my brows tinted (more on that later) at Benefit with Head Make up & Trend Artist Lisa Potter-Dixon I could not stop staring at her blinged-up nails. Each one was individually designed with a riotous melange of colours, jewels and marbled effects, which shouldn't have worked but wonderfully did.

It's not the first time I've had my eyes on her talons, when she created a week's worth of beauty looks for ELLE (see them here) it was her nails that sent me green with envy. So who is the mastermind behind her mani?

It turns out Potter-Dixon doesn't head to one of the well-known nail bars in central London, instead she frequents her local nail bar Spa Nails in Teddington where 19-year old Michael Do works his magic. The up-and-coming nail artist is full of great ideas, you just have to look at the detail on Lisa's nails to see.

Lisa has grown out her nails with Michael's help, so rather than false nails these are her own which have been reinforced with gel to prevent them breaking.

Book in before his star goes stellar and the waiting lists grow...

A full set of gel nail enhancements is £35 (refills are £22). Nail art varies from £5-£40 depending on what you want.
