First off, apologies for the fairly large picture of my hand but I just had to show you all my nails. They, are, long. It's the first time in ages I've been able to grow them.

For years short squoval nails (square with curved corners) were de rigueur, but now thanks to stars like Rihanna and Adele long pointed nails that are a more brash long and pointy ‘stilletoval’ shape are popular. And I want in on the action.

My nails in the past have always been far too weak and chipped which was fine because I disguised them with polish and never had to worry about the length. But now thanks to one product they‘ve had quite the growth spurt; they are a work in progress mind you, well they don’t exactly rival Lana del Rey's talons, but they are definitely getting there.

What to know my secret? Dr Lewinn's Renunail Nail Strengthener, £17. It's a miracle in a (very large) bottle; you get a whopping 30ml (most nail polishes are around 10-15ml).

You're meant to apply two coats on the first day, a coat every day for 5 days, then remove on the 7th day before repeating the whole process (three times). But I've been a bit more haphazard applying when I remember (almost every day) and removing roughly every week. I haven't been wearing nail polish and have been boosting the effects with a thrice daily application of Dr Lewinn's Renunail Nourishing Oil, £11, which has helped to nourish my cuticles and rid me of my unsightly hang nails (really my nails were in a terrible state).

I'm going to give my nails a rest soon (as recommended in the instructions) before embarking on another 3-week course. I’ll keep you posted on my quest for longer, stronger nails.

In the meantime let me know your thoughts in the comment box below especially if you have used this product before or if you’re tempted to try it...
