Today I spied a picture of the delightful Ms Chung out and about in Manhattan toting a large Le Labo bag. She is a big fan of the brand’s scent Santal 33, £132.

‘I hate overly powerful, floral perfumes,’ says Chung. ‘This one is subtle, more masculine.’ With hints of wood and leather it suits Alexa’s slightly androgynous, laidback style. ‘I also have their candle in the same scent [Santal 26, £47] burning in my house because I think it's nice to have a signature scent... All hail Le Labo!’

Not heard of Le Labo before? Its unique slant is that all its perfumes are 'made-to-order'. Each one is built around a primary natural essence from France's 'fragrance capital' Grasse. This essential oil concentrate is added to the rest of the perfume once you have purchased it. Your name and ‘date of fabrication’ is then inked onto the label. Each scent's name is the key essence, followed by a number which reveals the exact amount of that raw ingredient housed within - Rose 31, Vetiver 46, Jasmin 17 and so on.

According to the brand its main aim is to 'shock - astound, titillate and intrigue’ the wearer and everyone who comes in their contact – so don’t expect the usual when you give any one of them a sniff.

Another frustrating, yet pretty cool aspect is that each city has an exclusive. Liberty London is not just the only place you can buy Le Labo in the UK it’s also the only Le Labo stockist to sell Poivre 23; over in New York where Chung was shopping boasts Tubereuse 40 as its exclusive. Heading to Dallas? It’s the only place where you can snap up Aldehyde 44.
