A while back I had my hair uplighted for an ombre effect (dark at the roots, light at the ends). I went to Daniel Hersheson in London and Claire my colourist proceeded to balayage my hair - backcombing sections then painting it with bleach on top of a precisely placed paddle. The effect was surprisingly understated and while I loved it, I'm not really the understated, effortless type (sadly).

Mission still not accomplished I went to another salon - House of Rush on Piccadilly - for one of those long-lasting Gellux manicures (which lasted weeks) and ended up having my ends lightened even more by a brilliant colourist called Star (love the name). My hair now has more of a statement look, rather than just a subtle hint of colour.

What do you think, is less more or is more, more? And are you still feeling the dip-dye effect?
