If the idea of 'clean beauty' summons images of either dusty tubes of old hemp hand cream, or overtly earnest yogi Instagrammers, then you're not alone. A situation make-up artist Gucci Westman, and more specifically her new make-up line Westman Atelier, is here to change.
The A-list's go-to make-up artist for when they want that 'me but better' inner glow, Westman has transformed the faces of everyone from Reese Witherspoon and Julianne Moore, to Cara Delevingne and Kate Hudson.
Take a quick trip back to fashion week in February and you might have spotted the make-up mogul's latest move in her bid to bring 'consciously crafted beauty' to the masses. Switching out the usual cosmetic giants, Oscar De La Renta and Brock Collection opted for Gucci's brand spanking new beauty line, Westman Atelier, to adorn their AW19 models.The aim? To elevate clean beauty from hippy, to haute couture.
'Clean beauty is a mindset, it’s not a generational thing, it’s not a trend for me – it’s something that’s super intuitive, it’s an extension of my lifestyle', Westman told ELLE.
'I live this way, I breathe this way – this is my mission, I’m trying to create the cleanest, highest performing products with the highest amount of natural ingredients I can without sacrificing the performance.'
Landing in the UK to give the eco beauty scene a much-needed Hollywood glow-up, Westman Atelier is upping the standard for clean formulas that actually deliver. 'We have so much information and knowledge regarding ingredients and there is just too much at stake,' explains Westman. 'We need to raise the bar when it comes to manufacturing and formulating with better more responsible ingredients.'
So what's next? 'There's lots of exciting products coming. We have a mascara that’s launching in September, it’s completely clean, 97% natural, it’s so beautiful in terms of performance and I cannot wait for you to see that!'
