Pain-free Botox

Does the effects of Botox interest you, but the idea of your face being injected make you feel a bit peaky? What if you could get the same results simply by having a gel painlessly applied? Sound interesting? Well, it could soon be reality.

Plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Kane at the Manhattan Eye Ear & Throat Hospital in New York City is championing a new gel that, applied topically, paralyses the muscles for three to four months, mimicking the same results as the traditional injections.

Dr. Michael Kane said, 'The gel contains botulinum toxin type A and a peptide carrier, which is what helps the botulinum toxin gel penetrate the skin. There is an applicator used to apply the gel to the area. The gel sits on the area for 30 minutes. Then it is wiped off and the patient walks out.'

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons will hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss this new Botox gel with Dr. Michael Kane before seeking the all-important FDA approval.

Do you think you would be more likely to go for Botox in gel form? Or are you against it all together, whatever the application?
