Plaits have been having a bit of a comeback lately. A couple of seasons ago they were all the rage (thank you Alexander Wang) and since then theyve stayed on the periphery, every so often nudging their way back on trend thanks to a statement show or two. For AW11 theyre back courtesy of Lanvin and Erdem where they were styled in two different ways but to equally gorgeous effect, prompting me to rue the day I cut off my long hair. And this morning, the hair envy has grown ten-fold thanks to this picture of Nicole Richie sporting a natty, pony-club esque number.
What I love especially about this is not only the fatness of the braid itself but also the dry, matte and slightly unkempt texture of her hair. It takes away any primness often associated with plaits and stops it looking too girly. Its the perfect style to wear with laid-back summer threads like cut-off jeans shorts and jersey vests and whats more it couldnt be easier to do. Thats my summer style sorted then.
